The Importance of a Corporation Budget
The Importance of a Corporation Budget

Unlike the Union budget that creates lot of buzz among various stakeholders, the response to corporation budget is lukewarm. Although, the corporation budget is important because it shows the priorities set by the local body for the citizens of the city. Hence there is a need to check if this is in accordance with the priorities of the residents of the city.

It is the responsibility of the corporation to provide basic services like water, sanitation, health, infrastructure like roads, flyovers, etc. Hence it becomes mandatory to look into the budget to understand how each of these sectors are performing, what are their goals, their targets, their expenditure and allocation, how far they are from their targets, the total number of beneficiaries, etc.

All these have to be analyzed to get a realistic view of the situation. In all, if one wants to take stock of the situation and understand where we are heading, it becomes pertinent to analyze the budget, since it affects our day to day life and we are dependent on these local bodies for the provision of these basic services.

We as taxpayers also need to understand how our local bodies are functioning and making use of the money we pay for the services delivered by them. Unless we understand how our money is spent, how can we hold the local body responsible for their deeds and ensure quality services?

Janwani acts as a bridge in such situation making citizens know about the Corporation Budget and similar endeavors and initiates people participation.
