subject: Ironman Movie [print this page]

Have you noticed the change over the last few years of the super hero movies coming out of Hollywood? Superman, Batman, Spider Man, they're all very dark movies lately.

Where's the fun? Where's the excitement? Heck, even some of the humor from Superman 2 would be welcome. Fortunately, we do have one choice which will put a smile on your face with the warmth and realism of the way it's portrayed. That's the Ironman Movie.

Robert Downey Jr. is not exactly a modern day Christopher Reeve. He doesn't come across as a boyscout in tights. Nor does he show us the boyish good looks and charm that Tobey McGuire shows in Spiderman. Instead, what he does is he show up with a scotch in one hand, a babe in another and he says here I am, take me or leave me, I don't care.

Downey is known for his acting style of "take me or leave me" and playing around with a script. He doesn't just take the lines and feed them back. He'll make notes in the margins, he'll turn his character into his own and not simply what the Director wants the character to be and that's what makes his portrayal of Iron man in the Ironman Movie so special.

Iron Man is also a different type of super hero. He's not Batman, he's not Superman, heck he's not even the Fantastic Four. He's a lesser known hero in the Marvel universe and he does seem to have a different take on things than many of the characters created by the comic super house.

Like Bruce Wayne/Bat Man Tony Stark is a mega billionaire who has too much time on his hands. He builds himself a suit and goes out to chase the bad guys. Though unlike Bat Man, he does it with more of a global sort of a look and feel.

Basically, the plot goes that Mr. Stark was captured by terrorists of some kind and they wanted him to build the ultimate weapon for them.

He pretends that he's complying with their demands, but in reality, what he is actually doing is to build a prototype of his new Iron Man suit which will allow him to blast the bad guys away and then escape into the night, doing what super heroes do best, saving the world from more bad guys.

I won't tell you the rest of the plot. If you haven't seen the IronMan Movie, let me just leave you with this: it's worth seeing.
