subject: Essex Baseball - Baseball Development in the UK set for Expansion [print this page]

Baseball Clubs in Essex has been growing slowly but steadily over the past few years in terms of both player numbers and numbers of teams in adult leagues - but the sport looks set for a massive growth expansion for the 2010 season.

In the British Baseball national league, teams are divided into four different tiers. At the top is the National league then the triple A, Double A and Single A. The northern and southern British teams are also split into two separate groups the Northern and Southern Conference. At the end of the season the top two teams from the southern and northern conference play in the Final Four Tournament. The National league championships hold a 3 game series to decide who will be crowned the national league champions for that particular year, both the triple A and Double A teams only play a single game to decide who will be crowned the champions for there divisions.

In 2010 up to 8 new teams are entering the British Baseball league. This will be a 22 percent increase from the previous season. Some of this growth in British Baseball League is due to other players signing up to new baseball clubs in the UK.

But the really exciting news is that five brand new baseball clubs should appear in 2010 on the British baseball map. Two of these teams are called the Essex Redbacks and the Chelmsford Clippers.

Who are the Essex Redbacks?

The Essex Baseball club was founded in 2009 and are located at Chelmsford. The Essex Redbacks Baseball Club accommodate both Adult and Youth teams in Essex, East Anglia. East London and Chelmsford. There Home ground is located at Melbourne Park, Chelmsford and is a new baseball diamond for the 2010 season.

The Essex Redbacks baseball club currently have two adult teams and two youth teams who both compete in the Southern section of British Baseball. Both adult teams play in The triple A and Single A south league. They also have two youth teams called the Broncos (9-13) and the the Pony (13-16) who play in the southern league.
