subject: The Dos And Don'ts Of Floral Design For Weddings [print this page]

One of the most memorable parts of a wedding is the flowers. Every bride dreams of the flowers she will have at her wedding. They are very important and serve as just one more way to celebrate the bride and groom on the most important day of their lives. When it comes to planning and picking both the flowers and the florist, there are definitely some things one should know. The dos and don'ts of floral design for weddings is indeed something that is not taught in school. That's why this article provides this information to any bride who would like to know.

One 'do' for every floral design for all weddings would be to order early. Sure, flowers need to be fresh and can only be used for so many days; however, those who order their arrangements early will have first pick at the fresh flowers that come in before the big day. It's imperative that the orders are not held to last minute in order to allow the florist adequate time to ensure the order can be fulfilled. It's also important to double check the order two weeks and then one week before the event. This will help to keep the bride in the know in case issues arise with the shipment.

One 'don't' is to not have a backup plan. The fact of the matter is that flowers are delicate and can be damaged in shipping. Sudden weather changes can also have a very bad effect on flowers if one's luck does not hold out for the big day. Never just hope for the best. It's always better instead to plan for the worst. Ask the florist what backup plan they have in store and this will most likely put the bride and groom at ease.

Another 'do' is to pick the flowers out first. It's always easier to pick the colors of the flowers and then center the theme wedding colors on those than to do it the other way around. Certain types of flowers can only be found in certain types of colors. To ensure the bride gets exactly what she wants, it's imperative that she picks the flowers and their colors first before the wedding theme colors.

Another 'don't' is to use fabric or plastic flowers. This is a major faux pas that should be avoided at any wedding. It's tacky and unattractive at best. It doesn't matter if the nearest florist is thirty miles away; the drive should still be made and fresh flowers are an absolute must for any wedding. There are usually florists very close to any city so whether one needs a Philadelphia wedding florist or a wedding florist in any other city.
