subject: The Order Of Melbourne - Review [print this page] Hiding unassumingly up roughly 7 long flights of stairs, you'll hopefully manage to discover the wonders that are, The Order of Melbourne. A bit of an institute amongst locals and RMIT students, the bar is hidden, like most of Melbourne's gems, behind a small hole in the wall. For a less 'fashionable' version of the Cookie, Toff and Rooftop, and a whole lot more atmospheres, the Order is well worth the hike up the stairs to enjoy a relaxed, positive atmosphere.
Set up on two levels, The Order now has something for all times of the year. If you'd rather snuggle down in their generous leather couches whilst sipping something bubbly then head to the lounge. It will remind you of your grandparent's best room in which you were only allowed on if you promised not to touch anything. Don't worry there's no breakables and I doubt you'll find that strange musty smell lingering.
If you want to dust off the old dance shoes and tear up the d-floor then walk 5 paces and you'll be right in front of the DJ booth and stage. For those slightly steamier nights hit up the Rooftop space, its intimate, its open and you never know who'll wander through the stairwell. You can pull up a pew or wander around and mingle. It's going to be a killer over summer. It's pretty standard drinks at the Order of Melbourne. You can get nearly everything you want, beer, wine, spirits. The atmosphere is like the crowd, ever changing.
Depending what night you visit, you never know what special treats you'll be lucky enough to witness. Stand up comedy anyone? Perhaps an evening of subtle tunes. It's a bit of a Forrest Gump chocolate box type of a place; never know what you'll get. One thing is for sure, you're bound to find at least one RMIT student dodging night classes. Regardless of who or what you may find there, The Order Of Melbourne it's definitely worth the visit.
