Every state in the US has it's own set of car insurance requirements. In Maryland, the requirements are 20/40/15 and the state follows a Tort system where someone is found at fault for every accident. The person who is found at-fault is then responsible for all of the damages. Due to this Tort system, Maryland also requires every driver to carry Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage and personal injury protection.

Here are the details for Maryland's minimum car insurance because Salisbury Ford cannot let you drive off our lot without proof of adequate car insurance coverage:

Bodily Injury Liability $20,000 this insurance coverage is meant to cover the driver's medical care in the event of a car accident that the driver is at fault for.

Bodily Injury Liability Per Accident $40,000 this provides medical coverage for the passengers in your car, if you were found at fault.

Property Damage Liability Per Accident $15,000 if found at fault for the accident, any property damages are covered by a minimum of $15,000. This pays for damages to street lamps, personal property, or mailboxes. Anything that isn't a person, basically.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury $20,000/$40,000 - This required insurance coverage protects against damages caused to you and your passengers by someone who is uninsured or underinsured. You must carry $20,000 for yourself and $40,000 minimum for the passengers in your car.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) $2,500 in Maryland, you are also required to carry personal injury protection of $2,500 for reasonable and necessary medical expenses for your passengers. This is in addition to bodily injury per accident coverage.
