subject: Lady Athlete Running Towards The Life Of A Doctor [print this page] Brimming with great dreams like become a world class athlete that can compete in the Olympics, this young lady came to this town in 1984. Within just four years, her greenish brown eyes have seen everything. In 1988, she finished sixth in the 3,000 meter run in the Olympics in Seoul, Korea.
And last December, this world class runner finally graduated from school. At age 23, she is considered the next queen of American middle distance running, has signed a three year deal to run for a well known shoe manufacturer.
This young girl from Delaware chose to stay where she is for the moment. Whenever she goes on workouts, she also gets to behold the environs of the campus. This stunning runner at 5 foot 6 and 110 pounds flies towards her own finish line and it seems like her feet don't even touch the ground she flies on.
People seek her autograph wherever she goes, but fame makes her fidgety. She is such a humble young girl who claims to be a normal person she gets bothered when she gets special treatment.
Though truly normal, she is light years from being average.
She was the first girl from their town to ever get the chance to compete in the Olympics. She possesses 4 U.S.
collegiate titles and of seven world record relay teams, she is a member. Because of her invaluable prowess as an athletic leader, their school brought home 14 prestigious title wins during the Big East finals along with 8 individual honors during the NCAA championship. Her name is a staple in numerous major awards, too.
She and her track mentor from school are carefully planning out her running career now that she is out of collegiate competition. It's a big change with a lot of mental adjustments to make. It's hard for people to understand unless they've been through it.
She really struggles through a sea of pressure to be a successful runner, but it is her own self that exerts that pressure on her. She worries about getting injured while under contract for this famous shoe manufacturer. She's more anxious now than in the past competitions because she feels great things are expected from her.
A lot of people want to know how the local women's track team would fare now that she's gone. She guarantees that they can for their one great team. The notoriety, the pressures, and responsibilities make her value her privacy.
Even her brother, sister and parents had to adjust to the fact that people know them too so they have to accept some adjustments. She shares that her parents are a perfect blend of supportive and lad back but never pushy.
You would be surprised and envious of the company she keeps, thanks to her stardom. The elite individuals in the sporting world just happen to be friends and these are the ones that we would just simply be happy to watch on television. She does name drop sometimes but then this is not done out of conceit for she brims with true affection and concern with these people whom she has common connections with.
A good example would be this during her return from Hawaii in June where she went on tour with another runner, she shares that the last time she had since him was way back during the time they both competed in the Olympics. She truly enjoyed his company during those three days where they had fun and talked about the past.
She admits she has more time on her hands than she'd like, but she has not run out of things to do. In addition to daily practice, she busies herself with being a public figure, organizing her comings and goings to track meets, banquets, interviews, photo sessions. On top of everything, this munificent lady will share her time and talents to the local school's track team by volunteering as coach assistant.
Being a volunteer in an area hospital will also enable her to keep up with the medical career she has put on hold. This will certainly enable her, a psychology and premed major, to decide whether or not she should still run after her medical aspirations when she gets off the professional running track.
How does she perceive her life in the near future? While she reveals that she would love to become a mother and wife that will only be after her successful career as a runner is established. But as of the moment, she only wants to do what she wants and reach all her dreams.
