What Is Collagen Skin Care? And Why Should You Protect Your Skin's Collagen?

If you're interested in collagen skin care then chances are you understand a little about the role of collagen and elastin in your skin.

There's no doubt that 2 of the most important components of your skin are elastin and collagen. Both of these essential skin proteins have a very important role to play in maintaining the health of your skin and also keeping it looking good.

It has been known for quite some time that one of the major causes of visible ageing on the face is the gradual decline in the stores of collagen and elastin found in your skin.

Fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin under the neck, crows feet and more are all exacerbated by the loss of collagen and elastin from your skin with age.

This is well known. What is less well known is what to do about it. Obviously good collagen skin care should involve reducing the rate at which these 2 essential skin proteins are lost from the skin, or even better by improving the amounts of collagen and elastin over time.

The traditional approach has been to put elastin and collagen in bottles of skin care products. It would seem to make complete sense that if you put them in the bottle then that should increase the stores of these proteins in your skin if you are applying the product to your face.

After all if you apply it to your face and it enters the skin then there is more there.

However although this would seem to make complete sense it doesn't actually work that way. Unfortunately it has also been known for some time that collagen and elastin do not readily enter the skin.

A better approach to good collagen skin care is to stimulate the skin to produce more of it's own.

In Japan women have wonderful skin, and look good right into old age. Researchers have now discovered that one of the reasons for this is a particular seaweed that is a big part of the diet of Japanese women, and has been the centuries.

And researchers have also discovered that ingredients in the wool of sheep can produce huge improvements in skin health.

In both cases it's because they have a role to play in helping stimulate the skin to produce more of it's own collagen and elastin. Japanese women knew that seaweed was good for their skin, they just didn't know why. Now it's understood.

So it is now possible to buy excellent natural skin care products that utilise ingredients from that particular seaweed, called Phytessence Wakame, as well as ingredients from the wool of sheep, that actually stimulate the skin to grow collagen and elastin itself.

Good collagen and elastin skin care does exist. But it's not about applying collagen and elastin to your skin, it's about stimulating the skin to grow more of it's own.
