subject: 5 Shows You Should Consider In Las Vegas [print this page]

As well as their extravagant hotels and casinos, Las Vegas is also famous for their large scale shows and concerts with A-list names such as Celine Dion and Tom Jones regularly performing in the city for a number of months to sell-out crowds.

However it is not just singers that have shows in America's City of Sin, so if you are looking for something a little different to do in the evening, instead of hitting the casino, here are five shows you should consider.

1. The Blue Man Group - While they may resemble extras from Avatar, The Blue Man Group is one of Vegas' few shows that does not feature elaborate costumes and acrobatics instead you simply have three blue, silent men who play music, make you laugh and perform strange experiments.

Performing at the Venetian, the Blue Man Group have won acclaim for their unorthodox show which has entertained thousands of people with its percussion driven music, bizarre performances and subtle humour.

2. Disney's The Lion King - The stage adaptation of Disney's The Lion King has been performed to sell-out crowds in London, New York and other major cities around the world, but viewing it in Las Vegas is a unique experience. Visually stunning and filled with memorable songs, The Lion King (if you are one of the five people that never saw the film) tells the story of a young lion cub called Simba, who flees across the savannah after his father, The King of the Pride land, is killed by his uncle.

3. Cirque Du Soleil - Arguably one's of Vegas' most famous troupes, the Cirque Du Soleil is currently performing KA at the MGM Grand, an epic tale about Imperial Twins who are separated after their palace is attacked. Featuring dazzling acrobatics and unique displays, a Cirque Du Soleil performance is not to be missed.

4. Penn & Teller - Las Vegas' most famous magic duo, Penn & Teller have been entertaining crowds for years. The unique duo dazzle their fans with amazing tricks, which the tall Penn narrates, while the diminutive and silent Teller provides much of the action and comic relief.

5. Cher - One of the most famous singers in the world, Cher is currently in residence at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, where she entertains crowds with songs from her 40 year career. As one would expect from a Cher show, the 90 minute spectacle features a number of dazzling costumes, over the top sets and stunning production numbers. It is said to be one of the best headliner shows, Vegas has seen in recent years.
