Facial Liposuction - Now a More Common Procedure

Our bodies are naturally designed to store fat. But due to genetics, some people store more fat in certain parts of their bodies than others-including their faces. Thanks to the many advances in liposuction techniques over the years, you no longer have to accept your family genes. With a simple facial liposuction procedure, you can change your face by getting rid of the unwanted fat.

You don't have to be overweight to have a chubby face or pockets of fat around your chin and neck. Even people with naturally thin bodies can have fatty facial areas. In such cases, the facial fat can't be easily eliminated through diet restriction and routine exercise. For this reason, facial liposuction is often the only option for getting rid of the fat around the cheeks, jaw lines, chin, and neck.

Although liposuction used to be restricted to areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and hips, due to advancements in liposuction techniques over the years, facial liposuction is now a commonly practiced liposuction procedure. The procedure is typically performed on younger individuals. Elderly patients with lack of skin elasticity don't always achieve optimum results. However, when combined with a facelift or another facial cosmetic procedure, liposuction of the face can aid in the correction of sagging skin.

Ideal Facial Liposuction Candidates

Ideal liposuction candidates are individuals who are dissatisfied with areas of excess fat that they are unable to get rid of through diet and exercise. Though patients with good skin elasticity tend to have better results with facial liposuction, with a variety cosmetic procedures being available for the correction of skin elasticity problems, even elderly patients can achieve good results.

Anyone desiring to undergo liposuction also needs to be in good health. Just as important is being able to keep realistic expectations as to results you hope to achieve.

What to Expect With Facial Liposuction

The facial liposuction procedure is carried out through one or two holes strategically placed in specific areas of your face. A thin tube is then inserted into the hole. It is through this tube that the fat is sucked out. When the ideal results have been achieved, the tubing is removed and the holes are closed with either suture glue or stitches. The surgical areas are then covered with gauze dressings.

Patients who undergo liposuction of the face are often given an elastic-type band to wear over the area of operation for two weeks while they sleep. To help reduce pain and swelling, patients are often instructed to take medication, such as Tylenol, and apply ice packs to the area.

Many people who undergo facial liposuction are able to return back to work and other daily activities within one week of having the procedure.

The benefit of having fat removal surgery is that once the fatty tissue and cells are removed from an area, there will never be a recurrence of fat in that area. As a result, most people only require one round of facial liposuction to achieve their desired results.
