Factors When Considering Buying a Fuel Efficient Car

We all know that we will eventually run out of non-renewable energy sources. This includes oil which then turns into gasoline that fuels the majority of cars on the road today. However, before oil reserves are depleted, mankind will replace petroleum to a fuel source that is cheaper and better for the environment. In the meantime, there are several advantages of buying fuel efficient cars that will help to conserve ful and lower your impact on the oil demand.

First, you need to analyze what you want. Do you have your mind set on one particular make and/or model? Consider what your needs are including how many passengers do you need seating for. If you are the only one that uses the vehicle, you would not need a car that seats six. When it comes to fuel efficiency, size does matter. The bigger the vehicle, the more fuel needed. In fact, vehicle weight is the number one determinant for fuel efficiency. They just need more fuel to accelerate.

The next step is choosing the right type of engine. The amount of horse power required to accomplish your daily needs is a huge factor to consider. A smaller engine generally requires less fuel, so if you make compromises in horsepower, you will achieve greater fuel economy. Select a four cylinder vehicle over a six cylinder. And certainly rule out an eight cylinder if you want any kind of decent fuel economy. There may not be a difference in how much it costs to repair, but the cost difference may equal how much it costs for fuel.

When you have the make and models that you are interested in, research the miles per gallon (MPG) of specific models by MPG rating. This information can be found by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Be aware that the EPA rating will most likely be higher than the real-world mileage.

Most people have heard about gas electric hybrids, however, most hybrids are expensive. That includes the fact that they are more expensive to repair. However, if fuel economy and lowering your carbon footprint are more important to you, a hybrid car may be your best option. No one can argue that hybrids are at the top of the list for fuel efficiency.
