Knowlede About Dental Care

Dental Hygiene

Many of us neglect the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene which simply should not be difficult, costly or time-consuming. Not only will it make you feel good, your teeth would also look better. Your overall health will also improve as spreading of oral problems to your vital organs is prevented. Here are 5 tips for healthy teeth:

Visit your dentist every 6 months without fail

The truth is, no one enjoys a visit to the dentist. Your might have minor cavities or gum problems and upon feeling the pain, it is often too late and you will have to get treatment. Regular visits to the dentist will help in early detection of problems. Your dentist will also provide advice and help you plan your oral health to prevent serious problems.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day

Bad breath, bacteria and decay which leads to cavities will form on your teeth when you don't brush your teeth. Brushing between meals is recommended and if not possible, rinsing or eating sugar free chewing gums will also help. Plaque left on teeth might cause gingivitis but the gums can recover once plaque is removed.

Remember to Floss!

Flossing at least twice daily is needed to remove particles which are unreachable to toothbrushes. Improper technique could cause bleeding therefore; you should refer to your dentist. A professional clean by a dentist can also help flush out residual particles.

Limit the amount of artificial sugar in your diet

It is important to cut sugar intake from our diets especially the artificial ones. Sugary foods and drinks should be avoided between meals to allow the saliva to re-mineralise your teeth. Fizzy drinks and citrus fruit juices should also be avoided between meals.

Cut down on your drinking and stop smoking

Alcohol and Tobacco are the major causes of oral problems as many alcoholic drinks and mixers have high sugar content while smoking makes your teeth yellow and increases the risk of mouth cancer, gum disease and possibly, tooth loss. Limiting them will ensure healthy teeth and gums.
