The TaylorMade RAC Satin TP wedge is engineered with TaylorMade's tour-proven Y-cutter grooves, which feature sharp edges and a wide, deep design. Y-cutter grooves are 100% individually CNC milled after the face is milled flat, resulting in clean, sharp, consistent groove edges that grip the ball better, and a perfectly flat clubface. The sharper groove-edges grab the cover of the ball more effectively, and the added groove-width provides more room to channel debris into. It's the sharpest groove edge TaylorMade engineers could come up with that wouldn't damage the covers of today's premium-performance balls.
The TaylorMade RAC Satin TP wedge's sole is ground low on the trailing edge and especially at the toe and heel. When the sole is viewed from above the trailing edge appears curved, resembling the letter C. This sole configuration, which was developed on tour, allows players to open the clubface wide to play high, soft chips and pitches. Also, the leading edge is radiused, enhancing players' ability to hit low, controlled shots without digging. The versatility made possible by both the C-grind sole and radiused leading edge make it possible to hit an extraordinarily wide variety of approach and greenside shots with one bounce configuration. TaylorMade RAC Satin TP wedge delivers great feel thanks to its large Feel Pockets which efficiently channel unwanted impact vibration to strategic locations in the clubhead, promoting improved feel at impact.
I was a fan of the TaylorMade RAC Satin TP wedge and waited eagerly awaited the release of the satin version. These did not disappoint, providing the exceptional feel and control that the black version offered. My favorite shot around the greens is a low running chip that will take one bounce and stop, these wedges make that an easy shot to make. I prefer the look of the satin finish to the black finish for a couple of reasons; first, it won't rust, which is a look that I never got used to, and psychologically I think that the satin makes me think that the wedge feels softer.
One of the few drawbacks to the TaylorMade RAC Satin TP wedge is that the Y Cutter grooves will eat golf balls. It takes a good ten to fifteen trips to the range to get them to the point where they will not take half of the ball with them. The only other area that I found lacking was that you can not get away with any type of miss hit. I would recommend these wedges to any player who is looking for added versatility and spin with their wedges but does not need any forgiveness.
