A couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of getting acquainted with the Compaq 510 Notebook PC.
In general, I was impressed by the 510's list of features and capabilities.
511's Specifications
The 511 demo unit that came my way had features that were virtually similar to those of the 510 I tested.
Both laptops were running a Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system, and were powered by a 2.0GHz Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5870.
The 511, however, had 2GB of RAM while the 510 had 1GB. Unlike the 510, however, the 511 showed itself better than its predecessor when it comes to managing heat.
While the 511 was no frigid, it was nowhere unbearably hot as the 510 was. Designed for corporate and consumer users looking for a budget-friendly notebook computer, the Compaq 511 also comes with a 14-inch LED-backlit high-definition display and an impressive list of essential business applications.
It is virtually a mobile productivity center. It includes an ATI Mobile Radeon HD4330 graphics card with 256MB VRAM solution that manages memory usage between graphics and the system itself.
For networking and connectivity purposes, the laptop comes with 10/100 NIC, Bluetooth 2.1, and WiFi (802.11b/g/n), and has everything virtually covered.
Pudding Proofs
The 511 does justice to its billing as a cost-effective laptop for business users. It performs routine computing tasks capably and with surprising aplomb.
Doing spreadsheets, editing documents, and displaying presentations seem like peanuts.
Its display system, however, performed much better than I expected. Showing off videos and DVD movies with exquisite details, the 511 makes watching movies via its HD screen a quite enjoyable experience.
Also, those DVD-watching marathons I abused the 511 with showed that its battery does last longer than the three hours it is billed as capable of doing so.
Now who wouldn't want that kind of machine? I, for one, is a constant traveller and having this kind of machine in the bag is a must.
I like it a lot also that the 511 is able to manage heat much better than its predecessor does. Overall, the 511 notebook from Compaq performs as well as advertised, even better in fact.
