subject: Directv An Expert In Draining Money From Consumers [print this page] DirecTV, a leading provider of satellite TV in America is facing hard times with several complaints pouring in each day against its fraud and malpractices. In fact, the company has even been charged with a whopping $14.25 million fine to 50 Attorney Generals of the State. The company seems to be just not bothered about these consumer grievances, as it is continuing to stick to unfair means of doing business.
Based on numerous consumer complaints with the Better Business Bureau and 2 year long lawsuit, it has been proved that the popular satellite provider has constantly cheated on its subscribers and broken standard business ethics. It has concealed charges and presented dubious promotional offers. The grievances include billing issues, early termination fees, and a lot of other issues. In fact, these charges reveal the fact that company can go to any limits to earn huge revenues from the consumers. It appears as if the provider does not mind resorting to malpractices and indulging in unethical business practices to hold back customers.
Consumers who have been enrolled with DirecTV for more than a year have put grievances against its faulty billing systems, futile promises, rip offs, extra charges of which they were not aware of and a poor customer service. There is this subscriber who has pointed out that DirecTV has not lived up to his expectation. He complains that the provider is charging him $10 extra every month and when he proposed to cancel the subscription, it threatened him with a $150 cancellation fee, which was not called for. But the company is doing so.
Moreover, if you dispute the charges, you will be asked to collect it from the collections department. And then you will be boggled with 3-4 calls each day at your home. You will be stuck into such a situation that you will either have continue the services or drag the company to small court of claims, which again costs you much. This act proves that the company is desperate to retain subscribers under any circumstances. They would even offer massive rebates, cash credits and discounts to lure consumers into continuing the services.
Consumers have even complained about issues where DirecTV extended their subscription, without their approval. In fact, these people didnt even know this until they found the fee credited into their card bills. Besides, with every kind of package, the provider is goofing up things. Like, if you take up a new contract, you will get a DVR upgrade, which is standard offer. But as soon as you upgrade it, your subscription increases for a couple of months.
No doubt, DirecTV is enjoying huge customer base and earning great profits, but it is doing so at the cost of consumers trust. It is, therefore, certainly draining out money from subscribers.
