Italy is world famous for its cultural heritage and amazing food. However it is such a diverse country that is deserves a lot longer time than we typically have. This is why it is often much better to visit Italy on a few different occasions to experience the many difference places and people that it has to offer.

If you are going to attempt to see as much as possible of the country in one trip this is what we would recommend.

Start off in Rome, which is the capital of Italy. It is a truly magical city with historical buildings and statues surrounding you almost everywhere you go. Some highlights include the Coliseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and of course Vatican City. The Roman Forum is also definitely worth a visit.

From here you could head through to Sorrento. This is a small town but will give you insight into the old Italy and let you taste some great Italian seafood and a famous Italian drink called Lemoenchello. One could then go up to Florence which is famous for its art and buildings. After Florence, you should drive over to Pisa. There is more to this city than just the leaning tower and it is definitely worth a stroll around. Another very well known and popular city is Venice. It is an absolute must see and is simply stunning. One of the best ways of getting to all these places is by hiring a car and driving. It will make the trip so much more flexible and spontaneous and remove the need for deadlines.

Italy has become a very popular country to visit, especially for South Africans. There are two airports that have airlines that have flights to Italy. These are Cape Town International and OR Tambo Airport. The main airline doing these routes is SAA, but other airlines such as Virgin Atlantic and Air France also do so.
