Every time I visited my mum on the weekends, Sunday mornings we had to attend the Baptist Church in our community, in Silver Spring, Maryland, a tradition which I followed from the day I was born. As usual, my mother would introduce me to her old friends who would ask the inevitable question, "When is this lovely girl getting married?" Since this had gone on for some time I was quiet used to it by now, and never really gave it a second thought. However, on one visit during Thanksgiving weekend in November 2007, something made me think of the prospects of getting married.
I keep a prayer journal and one night I wrote a prayer asking God to show me the way to a good husband. For some reason I felt I was ready to share my life with someone else. I know mum and dad were a bit worried since I was 32 and still not inclined to get married in spite of their persistence. I was grateful for the blessings in my life and now looked forward to living the next chapter in my life. After all, mum and dad are happy together for the past 60 odd years. The night before I was leaving for Silver Spring, inclement weather almost stopped me from traveling. However, I persevered and finally made it home the next day.
Mum and dad had a couple of friends over, which included a neighbor, Jason, who I hadn't met in years. Though we shared a few childhood memories, Jason left to pursue his career at Harvard. To begin with, he did not recognize me although I did. Of course, I pretended that I did not recognize him either. He was a doctor and was as usual busy as ever with his medical career. Mum was quick on the draw and made it a point to drive the fact that I wasn't married to Jason. However, we continued to share jokes and reminisced as we sat down for dinner.
I noticed that Jason did not use his phone at all except for attending to a call from one of his patients. His very tone and manners gave me the impression that he was indeed a loving and caring guy. We both discovered that we had something in common and that was music. Jason invited everyone for a BBQ to his place the next afternoon, and did not leave with exchanging phone numbers. Little did I know that he fell in love with me sooner than I thought and cleverly invited me to help him with the cooking. I did accept, and though I was a bit nervous I thank God for giving me the courage to go through with it. We were soon engaged and got married the following summer.
Here is the wedding dress that I choose from dressinweddng.com, I am as tall as the model in the pics and I am sure I will be the most beautiful bride that day.
