Being the First Found - SEO Steps To Secure Online Success

Being the First Found - SEO Steps To Secure Online Success

If your website is going to succeed, then it had better be the page that's found first when your customers type a query into Google. Otherwise it's not going to get much (or any) traffic)

But how can you beat thousands, if not millions, of other websites to that coveted top spot? How can you ensure that you're the firstfound?

Five Steps to being the First Found

Step One - Headlines are going to grab attention!

And not just from your visitors. The first thing that any search engine is going to look at will be the title of your page. And that goes for your customers too. So show them what you're selling. The first words in your title should be the words you want to be found for. Get those keywords front and centre and you'll be taking your first steps to being the first found!

Bad SEO Headline: Fancy and Fashionable Footwear from Colin

Step Two - Keep that copy relevant

You don't need to be Shakespeare to be the first found, but you do need to know your way around a keyboard. You need to keep your copy relevant, readable and on message. That doesn't mean including your keywords thousands of times - it means scattering them about naturally. If you do need any assistance with writing copy, there are dozens of great blogs to get you found first

Step Three - Make friends, influence people (and search engine robots)

It's simple. If nobody's talking about your website, the search engines aren't going to hear about it. That's why you need some backlinks coming in to your site. What's more, you need those links to be saying the right thing. A link letting people know that your site exists is good - a link telling people what your site is all about is better.

Bad SEO Link Text: "click here"

Step Four - Be Sociable

If you've not heard about social media, then you must live in a cave. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube - all these are ways of sharing news and offers with your customers. And the search engines love them! So while you're waiting for your copy and links to kick in, why not Tweet about your products or set up a Facebook fan page.

Step Five - Patience

Here's the really important part. The little tip that people just don't like to hear. If you're going to be the first found, then you need to have patience. Even with a brilliantly put together website, wonderful copy and dozens of high quality backlinks, you're not going to have success overnight. But keep at it - your endeavours will pay off and you will be the first found!

Or you could just get someone else to ensure that you're first found every time!
