For them, it is especially difficult as age becomes a prohibitive factor in the job search. John Wells (E.R.) tackles this painful and frustrating subject with honesty and heart in his feature directorial debut, The Company Men.
The Company Men introduces us to Bobby Walker (Ben Affleck), a confident, successful businessman in his late thirties. Bobby has everything a man could ever want. He is living the American dream that is to say, until he is laid off and his life is taken away. After losing his job, his wife Maggie (Rosemarie DeWitt) and teenage son (Anthony OLeary) try to help. They attempt to convince him to reassess their life, but Bobby has a hard time letting go. So too do Bobbys former boss Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones) and co-worker Phil Woodward (Chris Cooper), both of whom find themselves in the same unfortunate situation.
