Everyone dreams of a beach wedding, since walking barefoot on the sands hand- in- hand in wedding dress, is something like a dream come true. But the dreams of many couples have been shattered due to the great BP oil spill in the gulf a few days ago.
It is a great blow not only to the wedding couples but also for many who are in the wedding business. The Florida Panhandle is known for beach weddings where more than 22,000 weddings take place annually. But since the oil spill more than fifty percent of the people have cancelled the venue for wedding. It is understandable because no bride would like to have her beautiful wedding dress getting soaked in oil and turning brown in color. It would be a mess for the guests too, obviously, as they would be stepping over tar balls to attend the ceremony.
But there are a few brave people who like to postpone their wedding or wait for the oil spill wreckage to get over. From Louisiana to Florida, the gulf of oil spill has been costing millions of dollars for those who are in beach wedding business such as photographers, caterers, DJs and others involved. Even the ministers, who like to put chairs on the beach, are not spared.
Florida's panhandle is known as the Las Vegas of beach weddings and this oil spill has certainly taken a hammering on their business. One of the wedding planners said that it would be able to host only 20 weddings this year, as against 40 last year. This disaster is more than a hurricane threat because a bride would not want her wedding dress to be ruined on the wedding day itself just because of an oil spill of a human error.
The fishermen are the directly affected people but the fall of beach weddings is highly significant taking into consideration the various people involved in the business. But there are a few people who still like to get wed and those comprise the remaining fifty percent.
