What do men want in a woman? It is a question that every woman asks but fails to get an answer. The fact is that the question in itself is wrongly framed because each man looks for different qualities in a woman.

A classic example of this is good looks as the basis of initial attraction. A strikingly beautiful woman will turn anyones head but that does not mean that everyone is romantically attracted to her. Even if we assume that there exists a beauty that attracts every man, it only proves that her appearance is pleasant; her personality may not attract everybody. It is not beauty that attracts but a woman who is pleasant to a specific persons eye that matters. Not all men want a woman to be extraordinarily beautiful. An average person is content with what we all call a girl next door or a girl with average looks.
Deep down what men want from women is a relationship built on strong foundation of compatibility, similar likes and common goals. Looks are not the only criterion. To many men, sincerity and inner beauty that reflects through actions and words matter more than looks.
What men really want is a woman who has a pleasing nature and appearance; a woman with average looks, a pleasing personality and a good heart. However, what men want in a relationship is slightly different.
Generally, men expect their women to be always attractive. Now, this is a delicate issue. It is unrealistic to expect women to retain their figure. What is implied here is that a man wants his partner to be conscious of her looks and take care of her body.
A partners emotional support is another thing that men want in a relationship. A man expects his partner to share his problems and support his decisions. In healthy relationships, men also expect women to provide thier counter view and help in the decision making process.
The crux of the matter is that men want someone to grow old with. A person who in some sorts reminds them of their mother: a woman, who can cook, take care of the household and helps them grow up in life. It helps if a woman is on the same intellectual level with similar views on matters relating to religion, social and political issues, someone with whom one can enjoy a conversation.
What men want in a relationship is for her to be a part of their life but not all of it: they want their own space as well. They want their women to be independent. A man does not want his womans life revolving around him as that puts a lot of pressure on him.
However, the bottom line is that no matter how compatible a man and woman are, and no matter how strong the foundation, every relationship has to be nurtured at every stage.
