subject: How to Get Over Rejection [print this page] How to Get Over Rejection How to Get Over Rejection
Rejection is a natural part of life. We all get rejected at certain points in life: by an employer, a friend or a potential partner. There is no way to prevent this from ever happening, but there is a way to handle it effectively when it happens.
In order to do so, you need to know how to get over rejection. Here are the ways that as a coach, I believe work best:
1. Don't expect rejection to never exist. Rejection hurts the most when you delude yourself that you will never get rejected. In this case, it takes you by surprise and it gives you an emotional shock. Don't expect to get rejected, but realize that it sometimes happens, even to the best of us.
2. Realize it's not the end of the world. We often have a hard time getting over rejection because in our heads, we make it seem something terrible. We believe that rejection is a catastrophe, and if we get rejected that means we are big losers. In fact, this is a huge exaggeration. Look at rejection realistically and you'll get over it faster.
3. Have a life. People who have a rich and exciting life get over rejection the easiest. It doesn't mean that much to them because they have a lot going on in their lives so there is no reason for them to feel bad. Always take care of yourself and your needs, seek to have a supportive social circle and a cool lifestyle.
4. Know your strengths. When you know your strengths and you're confident about them, you don't take rejection personally. Rather, you just see it as the result of an incompatibility or of a bad decision by the other part. This is one of they key benefits of being certain of what you have to offer.
When you know how to get over rejection, you don't let it paralyze you and you can truly enjoy your life. You embrace life as it is, with rejections and all.
