Socialized Health Insurance in America

Socialized Health Insurance in America

Great Britain and Canada already has this kind of system. So what about us? What I am trying to tell you is about socialized health care. Talks, mostly negative, have been coming out since the day Michael Moore stated (in the midst of inadequate health care issues and health insurance crisis) that what America is missing is socialized health care.. As constituents of a democratic nation, the main cry of the American people was: in trusting the plans for socialized health care, do we also trust our medical decisions to politicians?

Another thing that surfced was having an universal health care. As one of the richest and most forward countries in the world, America has been providing several of the most advanced medical equipments worldwide. This is why so many people with special or sensitive medical conditions go to our country to get the medical treatment that they need. Even richer individuals around the globe with terminal diseases would prefer to be airlifted to the United States .But if we already have a socialized medical care system, these people won't be able to be treated.

But some states like New York have a system comparable to a socialized medical care system. Healthy NY is the closest one we have to a socialized health care plans in New York . This program is a product of the Health Care Reform Act of 2000. It aims to provide a comprehensive health insurance plan to New York citizens who need it most. A third of the beneficiaries of this program has given positive feedbacks and proved to be satisfied with the benefits. When asked, though, what they would like to have improved in this socialized health care program, about 45 percent wanted more benefits and about 37 percent said that the costs were too high.
Socialized Health Insurance in America

It was stated that everyone has the right to be provided with his/her medical needs just as everyone has the right to food, shelter, and clothing. Hospitals are not in the power to turn down a patient in need - that is whether the patient is uninsured or not. But no one should abuse this kind of free service because other people will have to pay for it. It is true that we all pay for those who have no insurance. The medical expenses of the uninsured will be distributed to all. One big benefit for having Healthy NY is that it was able to reduce the number of the state's uninsured.

You cannot expect a perfect health care system in America or in any other country. But the country should be allowed to make known what most citizens really need. Do you think America is ready for socialized health care?
