The Three Day Diet is one that first surfaced in 1985 and promised to help you shed 10 pounds in 72 hours. From the first day this weight loss plan promised quick and easy weight loss, better energy and a fast body system cleanse. The diet is used for just 3 short days and then you are allowed to eat normally for the rest of the week. You can use the diet plan intermittently for as long as you need to reach your desired weight, but no more than 2-3 times in any one month period. The key to the maximum weight loss is said to revolve around a dieter's ability to follow the plan exactly with absolutely no change or variation in the types of foods eaten or the amounts.

Day 1 of the Three Day Diet

*In addition to the foods listed you need to drink 8 (8 ounce) glasses of water or non-caloric beverages each day.

Breakfast

1 cup of coffee or green tea unsweetened or you can use 1 or 2 packets of artificial sweetener

1/2 cup of fresh sectioned grapefruit

1 slice of dry toast spread with1 tablespoon of a smooth, organic style peanut butter

Lunch

1/2 cup water packed tuna

1 slice of dry, unbuttered toast

1 cup of coffee or green tea unsweetened, or you can use 1-2 packs of artificial sweetener

Dinner

3 ounces lean, red meat

8 ounces of steamed green beans

A medium apple

8 ounces of steamed carrots

8 ounces of a low fat vanilla ice cream

Day 2 of the Three Day Diet

*In addition to the foods listed you need to drink 8 (8 ounce) glasses of water or non-caloric beverages each day.

Breakfast

1 cup of coffee or green tea unsweetened or you can use 1 or 2 packets of artificial sweetener

1 egg, boiled or poached

of a fresh banana

1 slice of dry toast

Lunch

8 saltines

8 ounces of your favorite cottage cheese or you can substitute 8 ounces of water packed tuna

Dinner

1/2 cup steamed carrots

1/2 of a fresh banana

5 ounces of baked (or broiled) white chicken meat

8 ounces steamed cabbage and/or broccoli

A medium apple

4 ounces of your favorite vanilla ice cream

Day 3 of the Three Day Diet

*In addition to the foods listed you need to drink 4 (8 ounce) glasses of water and non-caloric beverages each day.

Breakfast

1 cup of coffee or green tea unsweetened or you can use 1 or 2 packets of artificial sweetener

5 saltines

A medium apple

An ounce of sharp cheddar cheese

Lunch

1 cup of coffee or green tea unsweetened or you can use 1 or 2 packets of artificial sweetener

1 piece dry toast

A single boiled (or poached) egg

Dinner

8 ounces of cup water packed tuna

A medium apple

8 ounces of chopped fresh melon

8 ounces of steamed carrots

8 ounces of steamed cauliflower

4 ounces of regular vanilla ice cream

The success of the 3 Day Diet is said to be the unique combination of foods and the amounts that are used. If you follow this diet exactly the foods boost your metabolism and fat burning potential. In addition it is supposed to detox the body, lower cholesterol, and give you more energy.
