subject: Visualize Your Fat Loss - See The Pounds Drop Away! [print this page] You may think it sounds ridiculous, but its true. You can use mental visualization to make many positive changes in your life, including losing the weight you have not been able to take off. To start all you do is picture exactly how you want to look in your mind. Once you have created the image, you concentrate on making that vision as real as it can be. You should also focus on the emotions you will feel when you have lost the weight, and let them make the vision even more powerful.
In the past all this visualization stuff was dismissed as nonsense, but it has become much more accepted recently. People who use it know that you really can create a clear picture of you at your ideal weight. If you focus on this vision enough, your subconscious mind starts to accept it as what you should look like, and starts working to make it happen. Now This may seem to make any sense to you but, whether you think it works or not, we all use this every day without realizing it.
An example would be people who are overweight but really believe that they cannot lose weight. Sometimes you will hear people say this and you know at that point that they really have little hope of ever losing weight. A person who believes it is impossible to lose weight cannot accept successful weight loss. If somehow they do lose a few pounds, their subconscious mind will work to get them right back, so that reality will again reflect what the person believes. Without realizing it, these people have programmed their minds to make sure they never succeed in losing weight! In fact, the ONLY way these people could ever possibly lose weight and keep it off is to use Visualization techniques to change their beliefs about weight loss.
But there is a secret to visualization, and here it is. Scientists have known for years that the human brain cannot hold conflicting beliefs at the same time. For example, if you believe that you are an excellent speaker you cannot at the same time believe your are a terrible speaker. Scientists have also found that, when things happen that go against what you believe, this creates conflict. For instance, using the speaker example, if you absolutely believed that you were a terrible as a speaker but then you got up and gave a wonderful speech, you will experience mental conflict. Your brain will actually seek to minimize what you have accomplished. If you have seen this happen, you were probably struck by the person making excuses for their speech like, "Well, I knew a lot about the subject" or "Its only because I know most of the people here". This is their mind seeking to explain how they gave a great speech when their belief is that they are a bad speaker.
Think about what this means to you. If you want to lose weight, you could use visualization so that you mind believes that you should be thin. If you do that, your mind will have conflict when presented with evidence contrary (like what you see when you look in the mirror). In order to handle this, your mind will want to either remove or resolve the conflict. Many people give up trying to lose weight and you can hear them say "I'm just hopelessly fat". However, those that are effectively using visualization can look in that mirror and say "THAT IS NOT ME!". They have a vision of themselves as a thin person trapped temporarily in an overweight body. If you use visualization to this extent, you may hear yourself saying things like "No, thanks. Ice cream makes me feel bloated." Your subconscious mind is leading you into doing things that it knows will move your towards your self image, and resolve the conflict!
Many of us are surrounded by negative images and words from our own minds or from friends and family who may ridicule your diet plans. Fortunately, they cannot dictate what you think if you are determined to change. So create that image of yourself at your desired weight as often as you can and make it as vivid as you can. You may as well try it, since you have already tried many other things. The only thing you may lose is your extra weight! Work hard at creating enough positive visions to counteract these negative ones and use these very clear visions to determine your future.
Several times a day you should practice visualizing your new image. Weight loss is important and to break out of the negative cycle you are in, you will need to make a concerted effort. Take any spare minutes you have during the day to practice making the image more and more vivid and infused with emotion. This type of thing is easy for some people, but for most of us it takes some practice to get it right. A good technique to help get you started is to find a photograph of yourself from the past at your target weight and focus on that. If you do not have a picture like that, cut a picture of someone else that has the physique you are looking for out of a magazine and paste your face onto it. Use any other technique you can think of to make your vision more vivid and real.
Think of yourself as being at your ideal weight already. Visualize yourself being thin doing what you are doing right now. Create positive affirmative statements and memorize them, and repeat them to yourself often. One example could be "I'm glad that I'm flexible, fit and slim", another could be "I like being thin more than I like fattening foods". You will find that, over time, your affirmations will keep you from things that can make you gain weight. Eating fattening food will become less appealing and increasing physical activity will be a lot more enjoyable. The fat loss will not be fast, but it will be steady and, more importantly, you will visualization is working. You will realize that by using visualization you can finally control your weight for the rest of your life!
