subject: Sex During Pregnancy [print this page] My wife is pregnant for 3 months, I am feeling a strong urge, but is it OK to have sex with her? Well, this is not only your question, but this is the most common question for a majority of first time parents. Basically, the new parents lack the adequate knowledge regarding the accurate procedure, timing and rate of recurrence. This results in misconceptions and sometimes a complete withdrawal from sex.
Well, to be frank, this creates a problem, sometimes suppressed problem which ends up in frustration and depression, and sometimes, it creates massive outbursts between two. A woman's psychological condition undergoes a striking change during this phase, thus she sometimes fails to understand the passion and urge of her partner.
Understand Emotional Changes
During pregnancy period, a woman tends to be extremely sensitive and emotional, and sometimes a bit of irrational too. Whatever she wants, she wants without any failures. This is why during this phase a woman can easily misunderstand her partner. With her severe mood swing, she may make her partner to become so confused that he may take her to the doctor, whereas she might expect her partner to understand her behavior, feelings, moods and anxieties.
The Degree of Sexual Contact
A woman may not have a strong sexual drive like a man, but she always expect a warm and gentle physical contact from her partner. It is seen that if a woman is touched sexually several times or at least if she presumes so, she may get irritated about her partner. You must understand that woman loves to get hugged, but not get sexually touched all the time. It is a process that needs to be initiated through several steps.
If she is ready and willing to get in sexual contact, you must avoid the missionary position, which is also known as man-superior position. The woman can get on the top or sitting position can be acceptable. You must be careful so that no pressure comes over the abdomen.
On the other hand, spoon position is also acceptable. In this position, you need to lie down along with your partner and keep your legs to bend upwards, both of them facing the same direction, while male partner should be in the back of the female partner.
However, sexual interaction should be avoided from 6th to 12th weeks of pregnancy, as this may lead to miscarriage. In addition, you must not get into any sort of sexual contact during the last 2 months of pregnancy, as it becomes really serious for both mother and baby.
