subject: Walking, The Most Basic Way To Lose Weight [print this page]

There are people who become so desperate about their weight problem that they are willing to try anything just to get rid of their excess weight. Thus, it is not surprising that a number of them are even willing to use products which are highly questionable in terms of safety. Although not all weight loss supplements are harmful, there are certainly a large number that have mediocre formulations which either work but wreak havoc on the system, or don't work at all but are quite harmless. As far as we are concerned, we are strongly against the use of products which put people's health at risk.

Weight loss surgery is increasingly becoming popular. This weight loss option is open to those who have the budget for it and are on the extreme end of the desperation scale. This medical procedure actually has an acceptable success rate but in spite of this, there are still serious risks involved. It can also be painful just like other types of surgeries particularly when the effect of anesthesia begins to wear off.

There is a better option available to people who want to lose weight. The traditional method which is the combination of a sensible diet and regular exercise is considered by experts as still the best solution there is. The problem, however, is that not everyone is willing to put in the time and effort into the process.

A person with a body mass index of BMI of 30 is considered obese. It is a condition that comes with many health-related risks and it may even lead to in death. In cases of extreme obesity when the person immediately needs to lose weight because otherwise his or her life would be put in danger, weight loss surgery is recommended. In less severe cases however, a weight loss management program is best.

Obesity is often the result of wrong lifestyle choices. There are also emotional and psychological reasons that lead people to develop the destructive habit of overeating. Thus for the obese, a quick fix such as a diet pill is not advisable. There are many complicated issues that need to be addressed and unhealthy habits to undo. Weight loss surgery on the other hand, is not something that any obese individual can just opt to undergo. Doctors decide who can go through it and there are criteria that people considering weight loss surgery should be able to meet. Furthermore, in a procedure like gastric bypass surgery for instance, a rigid post surgery routine and lifestyle should be maintained.

As mentioned above, the combination of a balanced diet and a regular workout routine is still the safest and most effective way to lose weight. The best part of it is that it also is a way for an overweight person to transition into a healthy lifestyle because once the target weight is achieved, changes need to be made on both the diet and the exercise plans which are more appropriate to the needs of a slimmer person. From a weight loss program, the individual can now switch to a weight maintenance program.

Walking is one of the most simple but effective ways to lose weight. It does not require any special equipment or physical skill. This aerobic exercise is not only a great way to burn calories, it also develops cardiovascular endurance or in other words, a strong and healthy heart.

A recent study done on a nationwide scale noted the significant relationship between inactivity and fat. This simply means that if you want to lose fat, you should focus more on increasing your physical activity instead of just lessening your food intake. To burn calories, find an aerobic activity that you enjoy. An aerobic activity is one in which the large muscle groups (quadriceps or leg muscles) are used continuously for a sustained amount of time. Walking, jogging, biking and swimming are some of the most common aerobic activities. If you are a beginner, walking is the most ideal. If you start on a regular walking routine and practice portion control when you eat, you will soon be in better shape with a healthier heart to boot.
