Losing The Most Weight On The Medifast Diet: How Do You Do It? I'll Tell You

Let's face it. Everyone wants a quick and easy diet that is going to be highly effective, very convenient, and not require so much sacrifice that the diet is too hard to stick with. This was my criteria when I chose the Medifast diet. However, I had a lot to learn about making this diet best work for me. At first, I tended to over think it and made things harder than they needed to be rather than trusting the process. I wrongly assumed that making more dramatic changes than were called for would give me quicker results and allow me to lose more weight. This is because I really didn't understand how this diet was designed to work. In this article, I'll offer the tips and tricks that I wish I'd had when I first started this diet. These are the methods which ultimately allowed me to lose a lot of weight (and keep it off).

Understand How Medifast Really Works: (You Don't Have To (and Shouldn't) Starve Yourself:) I often think that because the word "fast" is at the end of this diet's name, people assume that this means that they will be eating very minimally or making huge sacrifices. Although it's true that you will be taking in less calories and more protein than you are probably used to, you will be eating very often (six times per day.)

At it's core, this is really a low carb diet. The foods are low in carbohydrates and high in protein. Before you allow this to scare you, know that the foods are not just meat and eggs. There are a lot of snack and dessert type options that you wouldn't expect on this type of diet. And, for most people, this high protein state greatly increases your metabolism and encourages your body to turn to fat for energy, since no excess carbs are available. In simple terms, you'll begin burning your own fat.

But here's the catch that so many people don't understand. In order to get to this fat burning place, you can not skip meals. You must eat regularly or your body will hold onto your reserves for dear life because it isn't getting regular fuel. So many people make the mistake of skipping a few of the six meals or bypassing the larger "lean and green meal" that you make yourself. Don't make this mistake. Trust me when I say that I lost a significantly higher amount of weight during the weeks when I didn't skip meals or cut corners. I know that skipping calories can feel like you're being an overachiever, but all you're really doing is not following the directions and slowing your progress.

Use the Resources And Support That Is Freely Offered: Medifast is really good about providing you will detailed information and giving you what you need to succeed. But, so many people will rush through their shipment and not read the "getting started guide" or the directions. Slow down and know that you are in this for the long haul. Take the time to understand how and why this diet is designed the way that it is and what is expected of you. There's nothing worse than rushing through and then later figuring out that you could have gotten by easier.

Also, the company's web site is chock full of support, information, forums, guides, tips, help, and inspiration. Use these resources. Seeing the blogs of the folks that lost half their body weight or are now wearing a size six are going to be the things that motivate you to keep going. Interacting with other folks sharing the same experience is very reassuring and provides you with both inspiration and accountability. Don't go this alone because you don't have to. All of these resources are free, so there's no excuse not to take advantage of every resource that would help you to have individual success.

Find Out What Works Best For You And Just Keep Repeating It: There will come a time in your medifast journey where you will hit a stride. Know when this happens and keep recreating the same successful scenario. For many folks, this is going to be when they get a couple of weeks of the diet under their belt, start to see real results, and use this for motivation to begin moving more.

As with any diet, the positive results begin to feed off of themselves and you'll find that, without even consciously knowing that you're doing it, you're starting to change some habits and you're beginning to think about what you eat a whole lot less. This is where you want to be. There may be times when you get sidetracked or distracted. That's normal and OK, but make sure you refocus and continue on with your stride as soon as you possibly can. Because at the end of the day, this diet really is a series of small victories repeated over time. Five pounds gives way to ten, then to twenty and eventually to a whole new body and lifestyle emerges. This transformation happens as the result of a series of days where you just follow the diet as planned and have faith that it really does work.
