subject: The Many Uses Of Barbecue Sauce [print this page]

It is very true that the most common use of barbecue sauce is when you have some meat you want to grill over the fire. Family cookouts, tailgate parties, or even those who sell their products from the grill are all using some form of the stuff. While there is no doubt this is what everyone thinks of when the sauce is mentioned, there are other ways to use it to your advantage in the kitchen. It is not just for the old charcoal grill anymore.

If you are ever trying to prepare a meal, have yourself some cuts of meat whether beef, pork, or chicken, and have no idea what to do with them, have no fear. That simple little bottle of barbecue sauce sitting in your pantry can save the day. Simply prepare your meat for baking, pour the sauce over the meat, cover with foil, and place in the oven for slow roasting and you are finished. This will normally provide you with a juicy and tasty meat that has blended its own natural flavors with the sauce and can be served with a multitude of side dishes. You can't get any easier than that.

Beyond the very simple, there are hundreds of recipes for using barbecue sauce indoors. The most common use other than actually grilling with it is using it as a marinade, or in conjunction with other ingredients to make a very effective marinade. Many of the sauces that originate in the Carolinas are more vinegar based and are excellent for this purpose. Some of the mustard sauces as well could make a simple cut of meat into a dreamy and delightful dinner. Even your standard store bought Kansas City style tomato based sauces can be "doctored" up to become an award winning marinade. Don't overlook the obvious, and go with what you know is good.

If you are looking for other ways to utilize your favorite barbecue sauce, there are recipes all over the Internet and in books that can help guide you. Recipes for jams and jellies, pasta sauces, and even some very creative desserts can all be found, and tried out. With many sauces being of a tomato base, their versatility is almost boundless. Soups, salad dressings, marinades, and toppings of all kinds have a tomato base, and adding the element of a good barbecue sauce could add some zest and creativity to any recipe.
