What To Do If You Are Injured In The Workplace

There are probably hundreds of accidents in the work place that are reported on a daily basis and probably just as many that happen without anyone saying a word to someone about them. This is of course a very unwise decision to make. Every accident no matter how small it may seem should be reported to an employees supervisor. So what to do if you are involved in a work related accident? There are a lot of things that you should do, you also need to know what are considered accidents.

Remember it is the responsibility of the employer to make sure that they provide their employees with a safe working environment. Unfortunately, the truth is that accidents do happen and a lot of them can be avoided either by measures implemented by the employer or by the actions of the employees.

One of the most common work environments that have a lot of accidents would probably be the area of construction. There are so many people using so many different types of equipment, there is no doubt that there are accidents waiting to happen around every corner of this type of workplace. However; this does not make an employer exempt from providing as safe as possible work working conditions.

Even if it is a minor accident, you must report what happened to your supervisor. Show them where you were injured so that your supervisor will be able to fill out an accident form that must be kept on file. If the accident is more than a superficial scratch or bruise there are far more things you must do to ensure your own well being. After the injury has been reported you should immediately get medical attention. If the accident is moderately serious to serious in some instances you may need to file a report with the police.

Also make sure that you get pictures of the accident if there is visual evidence at the site of the injury.

If you are set up for future doctor visits, it is important that you keep these appointments, if you are having a battle with your employer you will need to have proof that you visited a doctor on numerous occasions. Another thing you should is make sure to get a note from the doctor that covers all of your time off.

Do not talk to anyone about your accident and never give any information to an insurance agent that might call you about the accident. Do not sign anything either should an insurance company send you forms. You should discuss this with a lawyer. Signing something before you understand what it is may end in a lost claim for compensation.

If you are able to, you should take extremely good notes for yourself and your lawyer. You need to write down your view of what happened during the accident and after. Gather information from employees that witnessed the accident gather what they claim to have seen and their contact information. Make sure that what you write is extremely detailed, the more you can describe the better. Make sure to even write down what others might be saying about the accident and if there is any kind of pain or impairment because of the accident you need to describe what you can no longer do because of the accident or list the kind of pain, where it is located, what it inhibits you form doing. Every detail is vitally important to your claim.
