Finding And Understanding An Auto Insurance Online Quote

An auto insurance online quote can be a handy thing to have, many insurance companies now offer much more competitively priced quotes via their online website. The reasons for this are that the costs associated with providing an online service are greatly reduced and the amount of competitors in the market are also increased.

To be able to get a quote there are a few pieces of information that you will have to part with but don't worry as these companies have data protection acts so your details won't be passed on. The first bit of information you will need to give is your personal details, this involves your full name, your address, D. O. B etc. Next you'll have to give details regarding your driving history, things such as how long you have been driving and whether you have any points on your licence. The last bit of information you will need is regarding the car itself. If you have the registration number of the car then the details required here will automatically be filled in for you however if you don't you can fill them in manually.

Of all the bits of information the two key factors that will determine the price of you auto insurance quote are the type of car and the length you have been driving. The newer or more expensive the car the higher your premiums will be and also the larger the engine size within the car again the higher your premiums. If you have been driving for more than five years and have a clean history then your premiums will be lowered as the insurance company see's you as a better risk to insure.

The other factor that will determine the cost of the insurance will be the type of cover that you wish to take out. There are three main types; the most expensive is fully comp, this insures you for damages to your own car and others whilst third party is the cheapest and only covers damage to other car's in the result of accidents.

There are a couple of routes you can go down with respect to obtaining an online insurance quote. You can either go directly to the providers website and fill in their form or you can go to a comparison website and obtain multiple quotes by filling in one form.

There are advantages to doing both. Filling in a form on a comparison website can give you an idea of the region for the cost of the insurance that you will have to pay. However using a provider's site directly will allow you to customize the quote slightly more to tailor it to your specific needs.
