Planning Your Summer On Kiawah Island Sc Is A Breeze

Although southerners are notorious for approaching life at a slower, more laid-back pace, they are always sure to keep their social calendars full. Whether you are a native or come from another part of the country (or world!) there is something for everyone this summer, so start planning and get your family and friends together for a great time.

Below is a list of just a few of the fantastic events that are already scheduled for the summer of 2010 with dates and locations:

April 30th-May 2nd: The second annual Gourmet & Grapes weekend is a great way to get your palate geared up for summer! This three day event will feature chefs from around the Lowcountry that work to assemble a menu so decadent and delicious that you will not want the festival to ever end. There is a black tie dinner to kick-off the event, an interactive wine tasting, luncheon with Chef Todd Gray of Washington, DC and a grand finale dinner that features twelve different tasting stations. Dine for a good cause as well; proceeds will benefit the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center located in downtown Charleston.

May 2nd: The Town of Kiawah Island Arts Council has paired up with the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs to present an evening to remember. Just a short drive from Kiawah, the Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Johns Island will be the setting for Piccolo Preview, a wonderful selection of musicians that will be featured during this year's Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston. Starting at 4 PM enjoy the sounds of different artists performing pieces from Three Watercolors for Flute, Cello and Piano and The Golden Phoenix. Spoleto is one of Charleston's crowning events so this is a must-attend event to add to the calendar.

May 19th & May 26th: Come to the Sandcastle for the two-part Piano Bar Series; the first night will feature Show and Steman, the second night will have Bill Howland tickling the ivories. This is a casual event where you can bring your own food and drink; sit inside or out in the island air with friends old and new to wind down a long day on the beach or golf course. Show starts at 5 PM.

June 30th: There is always a good time to be had at the Night Heron Park on Kiawah Island. This year one of their main events is Zydeco from the heart of southern Louisiana. J.J. Caillier and his merry band bring the eclectic and electrifying beats of his ancestors; Caillier's father was a famed record producer who worked with Clifton Chenier who brought Zydeco into the public eye. The Zydeco Knockouts have traveled the world bringing their unique blend of music to people of all nationalities; it is an honor for them to play on Kiawah Island this year, their first performance ever in the Lowcountry.

In addition to these events there are always more cropping up as the year comes along, just ask one of the locals what they are doing that weekend and see if they don't already have a calendar full of fun things to do!

Don't forget to leave time for hitting the beach, doing some shopping and enjoying the great restaurants that pepper the island; bring family, friends and new acquaintances along to create a party of your own!
