Inspiration For Your Wedding Color Theme
Inspiration For Your Wedding Color Theme

From the wedding invitations to the cake frosting, there's no question that choosing the colors is one of the trickiest tasks a bride has to cross off the 'to-do' list. Many other decisions cannot be made until your color theme is confirmed, as various wedding items will need to reflect the colors you have chosen - for example your bridal flowers. Your wedding theme colors can range from vibrant and deep shades to light, soft pastel tones - there are no hard and fast rules.

Some brides can solve the color question without thinking too much about style. They might have a life-long love for a specific color... Sometimes the selected wedding venue might have strong color characteristics they need to coordinate with... Or, when picturing their wedding, they already see their bridesmaids awash in certain colors. Alternatively, if you have your heart set on a particular theme - E.g. Beach theme - choosing the complimenting colors may become obvious fairly quickly.

However for some brides it's not always that simple. If you are really stuck, a great idea for some additional inspiration is to head down to your local home hardware store and scoop up a selection of sample paint color cards. They also have booklets showing combinations that work well together for various rooms, which may give you some helpful ideas for a wedding color theme too!

Popular color themes include:

- Black and white

- White and silver

- Pale pink and chocolate brown

- Gold and ivory

- Chocolate brown and gold

- Navy blue and silver

- Pink and green

- Red and black

- Sunny yellow

- Ocean tones: turquoise accented with sandy shades

- Hot pink and silver

- Purple and lavender

- All white

If you have found only one color you find striking, but can't fit it with a suitable color combination, sometimes just varying the shade and tone one color can also produce a dramatic effect. Examples are white on white (using different tones of white) or a very light grey, medium grey and then a very dark grey or black.

Whether you pick a popular color combination, an unusual wedding theme or something in between, your wedding colors are a detail that will stand out with your guests. Make sure that your wedding theme and colors relate back to who you are and compliments the atmosphere you are trying to set. Definitely don't let anyone talk you into colors that you don't like - you need to be 100% happy with what you choose because after all, your wedding expresses your personal style in a way it never has before. The pressure is on!
