Thinking that you might be interested in becoming a plastic surgeon? Is science and art some of your favorite courses? Being a plastic surgeon will allow you to work in both of these areas and Plastic Surgery Phoenix can tell you exactly how to accomplish that goal.

During High School you will want to take certain test and study some specific areas if you are anticipating becoming a plastic surgeon.Take as many advanced math and science courses available to you during high school. Chemistry, Biology, and Physics are important concentrations. See if your local community college offers any classes you can take while in high school to help prepare you even more and during your summers volunteer at one of your local surgeons office to expose you to what you will be looking forward to after school.

Most medical schools require a four year degree from an undergraduate program. Pre-Med is not necessarily necessary. Some medical schools like a graduate with a well rounded background, but they usually require you to have maintained a GPA of at least a 3.0. Take your MCATS your Junior year and start the application process this year as well. Continue to volunteer or intern in the plastic surgeon offices.

Finally off to Medical school now for four years. Your first two years will be spent mainly in the class room. Then the last two years will be spent concentrating on clinicals. You will be required to take the United States Medical Licensing Exam while in medical school. It is in two parts. So you will take the first part your second year and the last part your senior year.

The final step in becoming a plastic surgeon is your residency. During your residency, you will receive hands-on training from experienced doctors with the goal of mastering the six surgical core competencies: medical knowledge, patient care, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice. There are two models for completing your residency, the independent model or the integrated model. For the independent model you will complete three years of residency like other doctors and then change to your plastic surgery concentration you final two years. With the integrated model you will be in residency for up to six years and are required a 24 month plastics training and in your final year are required to hold a chief residency position.

Becoming a plastic surgeon takes undergrad, medical school and residency. The road may seem long but it sure is worth it. Not only are you able to be in a career field that you love and can help so many people you will enjoy the salary too. The annual salary for plastic surgeons ranges from $300,000 to almost $800,000 a year.
