Why Stay-cationing is Now First Choice Over Holidaying Abroad! by:Sarah Ainslie

With the Euro now almost matching the pound and the recession forcing families to spend their money wisely, more and more people are turning their backs on European destinations and opting to holiday in the UK. "Stay-cationing", as the media is calling it, is becoming increasingly popular and not just for financial reasons.

How well travelled are you within your own country? Cheap air travel and cut price foreign holidays has led to overseas travel becoming the norm for most when it comes to getting away. As a result many UK destinations have seen a decline in popularity over the last 20 or 30 years but this is changing. Most can say they have been to Spain, Greece, Turkey and Portugal as well as more exotic destinations but this has often been at the sacrifice of really getting to know their own country.

Now people are rediscovering England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and the amazing holidays it can offer and it's about time too! The Great British holiday has something to offer everyone and it's good for people to experience the diversity of the UK and see what lies on their own doorstep. OK so we don't get the weather that Spain does but we have a rich culture and a host of attractions and entertainment options available that don't rely on glorious sunshine to deliver.

From a financial point of view this can only be a positive step for the UK business and some would even go so far as to say that we have a responsibility to spend our money here in the UK and boost the economy. There is also an environmental consideration. Air travel brings with it pollution and high energy consumption so anything that reduces the demand for it has to be good news.

Want to holiday in the UK but don't fancy the idea of the "hi-de-hi" style holiday park? There are lots of accommodation options available that allow you to find the perfect break whatever your tastes. Renting a luxury apartment can be a great treat as your holiday base and if you fill the capacity they can be very cost effective - after all who wants to stay in accommodation that is of a lower standard than you are used to at home? If you are worried by the weather and want to see some culture while you are away then the south west coast of England can be a great choice with Cornwall and Devon always proving popular.
