As the amount of people experiencing yeast overgrowth grows and the myriad of symptoms attributed to it increases, more and more people are choosing to eliminate yeast from their life altogether. Some holistic doctors believe that a large amount of us are suffering at least some overgrowth of candida that can effectively be prevented by diet.
Our bodies are filled with bacteria. In most cases these bacteria regulate one another forming a balance. When yeast in our bodies begins to overgrow due to things such as poor diet, medication or illness that balance is disrupted causing us to suffer in a variety of ways. Some examples include abdominal pain and excessive bloating.
If we eliminate foods that have yeast we can begin to regulate the candida in our digestive system and begin the path towards a healthier lifestyle. Obvious foods containing yeast include bready foods, pastries, cookies and pretzels. Other foods that may not be so obvious include anything that is fermented such as foods that are made using vinegar or alcohol. That means no more condiments such as mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce and steak sauce.
Other types of foods to stay clear of include items high in molds like cheese, nuts and any cured, pickled or smoked meat. Foods you might not think contain much mold but do include canned tomatoes, prepackaged herbs and tea.
And for all you people who love sweets I'm sorry to say that these foods will have to go. This will be especially difficult because people suffering from an excess of yeast usually begin to crave them. Some of the foods to avoid include processed sugar, honey, chocolate and high fructose corn syrup.
One tip is to try and stop from buying any prepackaged foods as they often contain yeast. The more natural you are the better for your body. Now I know this is a restrictive diet but don't worry it's only temporary as the yeast should begin to die off relatively quickly and you'll be feeling like a brand new you in anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks.
After that it's up to you whether to stay on the diet long term and enjoy an increase in energy and vitality or go back to your old way of eating and hope for the best. Either way you'll be much better off than when you started!
