subject: Fast Weight Loss Diets: Don't Be Satisfied With Temporary Results [print this page] Quick weight loss diets prey on people's intense desire to finally get the body they've always wanted. Unfortunately, any results that they see are too often temporary at best.
There are a number of absurd-sounding diets - eat nothing but cabbage and lose weight! Eat nothing but grapefruit and lose weight! Most people can lose weight if that is all they are putting into their bodies.
These quick weight loss diets and others like them inevitably fail. To lose weight and maintain your ideal weight, you need real change in your life. Not a fad.
When we look, and look, and look, for some help in our quests to lose weight, quick weight loss diets become extremely enticing. This, we think, is what I have been looking for. This will work. We are willing to believe unbelievable claims because we want to and need to.
And still others find quick, temporary weight loss better than nothing. Seeing some results, even if they don't last long, seems preferable to struggling.
If you are still tempted to try a fad diet, consider the reasons why they don't work:
1. Same old, same old
Often, quick weight loss diets don't provide our bodies and appetites with a variety of foods. We end up eating the same foods, day after day.
After a few days, we don't even want to prepare our meals and eat them. Think this will help you lose weight? Think again.
2. Cheat a little, cheat a lot.
If you've been doing well on your fad diet, eating the same foods in the same amounts for days, you figure you've earned the reward of a sugary, high calorie treat. That one little treat, a tiny harmless cookie, can lead you down the road to overeating.
Quick weight loss diets are risky because they can actually lead you to eat more when you fall of the diet wagon.
3. Not made to last.
These quick weight loss diets are fraught with danger. From overeating to food boredom, you can quickly loose interest and motivation.
4. The risk of gaining weight.
Nothing is worse than losing a little weight with a quick weight loss diet and then gaining every pound - and sometimes more - back the instant you start eating normally. Your body may be trying to retrieve some of the nutrients you lost while on the diet, or your mind may be rebelling.
Either way, it is a serious blow to your efforts when you have even more weight to lose.
You don't need quick weight loss diets. What you do need is to develop good eating and exercise habits.
There is no getting around it - these are the only things that work to help you lose weight and keep it off.
Real weight loss begins with simple changes. Here are some ways you can adopt healthier habits:
* Add more nutrient-dense vegetables to every meal.
* Eat more fiber, which helps keep your body healthy. It also keeps your body burning fat.
* Sprinkle 5-6 small meals throughout your day.
* Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it should be the largest. Make dinner small and light.
* Move more. Even simple things like taking the stairs, doing some sit-ups and push ups during commercials, or playing catch with your child can have a big impact on your fitness level.
* Have regular workouts. If you are too busy for one long exercise session per day, do several short ones.
* Eat more whole grains.
* If you're going to eat something, make it nutritious. Don't waste your calorie allotment on junk food or sugary drinks.
These simple steps and many more can help you make drastic changes in your body and health. Just by adding some new habits to your life, you can safely achieve weight loss.
Living a more healthy life overall is the best and only way to shed extra pounds. You'll no longer have to "diet". You'll simply do what's best for your body.
Why settle for temporary solutions offered by quick weight loss diets? They are full of empty promises.
