Vacations In Bournemouth, England And Some Things You Should Know by:Phil Jones

Bournemouth is a thriving, vibrant and extremely exciting city, despite the unfortunate fact that it is known as 'God's waiting Room'. The sad reason why it is called this is that a great number of people settle here during retirement. However, the city of Bournemouth has an incredible youth culture, with a a high proportion of university and language students. Obviously such a place will be a superb place to have some fun but, there is lots, lots more to the place. In actual fact Bournemouth is surprisingly popular with people of all ages, the most likely reason why there are so many guest houses offering bed and breakfast in Bournemouth to choose from.

Bournemouth is located right on the English South coast, just over one hundred miles southwest of the city of London. Bournemouth, the largest town on the south coast, is extensively well known for its 7 miles of spectacular golden sandy beaches and sparkling rich blue sea. It is the city's prestigious location that caused it to be an immensely popular vacation destination since the beginning of the 19C. It is virtually impossible to believe that the area in and around Bournemouth was, in the early 19C, largely a remote and barren heathland mainly consisting of common land except for the estate of Sir George Ivison Tapps. The Tapps Arms, a public house, appeared on the moor in eighteen hundred and nine, only a few of years later, in 1812, the first people, a retired army officer and wife, moved in.

Lewis Tregonwell and his wife bought a patch of land, off Sir George Ivison Tapps, on which they built a few villas with a sea view with the idea of letting them for the summer for vacations. Lewis Tregonwell also built themselves a summerhouse. and also began to plant many hundreds of pine trees, making a gorgeous sheltered walk to the beach, , which later gained the name of the Invalid's walk.

Since the early days Bournemouth's popularity, as a tourist destination, has ceaselessly increased, and, the city of Bournemouth is widely known as a tourist haven for entertainment, fun, culture, leisure and recreation. Places which prove very popular to visit include; St. Peters Church Graveyard, the award winning Central Gardens, Bournemouth Pier and the Russel-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum.
