subject: Rifle Scope Adjustment - Three Rifle Scope Adjustments To Help Achieve Better Accuracy [print this page]

Rifle scopes come in various sizes, each having its own unique layout fitted for your shooting or hunting needs. There are three rifle scope adjustments will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy. Variable power, wind, elevation, and parallax adjustment. These four adjustments, when used correctly will make for optimum precision shooting.

Parallax adjustments-parallax adjustment knobs, also known as side focus knobs are usually included on tactical rifle scopes. Parallax is used to adjust and focus on a target at various distances. To adjust your parallax, setting simply turn the parallax compensation knob to the appropriate distance or until the target and reticle are both in focus. Not only does this make your target and reticle crystal clear, it also greatly reduces aiming errors.

Elevation adjustments-elevation or vertical adjustment jobs are often located on the top side of the rifle scope. The standard rifle scope comes with 1/4 minutes of angle adjustments. Be sure to use a proper zero or site in target that accommodates 1/4 minutes of angle adjustments. When used with the appropriate target, one rule of thumb is, one box equals one click. Shoot three rounds downrange, and count the number of boxes and adjust your elevation to the appropriate number of clicks.

Wind adjustments-just like elevation adjustments windage adjustments usually come in 1/4 minutes of angle adjustments. Using the appropriate quarter minute angle zero targets, shoot three rounds downrange and adjust accordingly. Remember with most quarter minute angle targets one box equals one click. Repeat until three consecutive rounds hit center mass of your zero target.

Remember these three techniques when sighting in your scope. You will be efficient when zeroing and will be able to zero many other scopes in little to no time.
