Spring Mentality Has Extended Into the Summer

Summer is here, the weather is good, and the stay-cation has come to Britain. With austerity measures threatening the near and distant future and temperatures rising in and around the capital, many Britons are taking their summer holidays much closer to home this year.

For those working in London who are yet to take a break from the daily grind, an above average summer population combined with foreign and domestic tourist numbers offer the prospect of some increased cashflow. This is not to mention the welcome respite it should bring from the despondency that generally accompanies wonderful July weather and a sense of financial insolvency which prevents them from enjoying it.

But what does it all mean? Well, for a start, the spring mentality has extended well into the summer season, and the Do-It-Yourself tasks we've all been putting off are finally being taken care of. Gardens are looking greener, garages tidier, and all is being made spic and span for what is shaping up to be one of the greatest of our Late, Great British Summer. Builders, construction companies and contractors of all kinds are set to have their busiest season in a number of years, with no sign of the commercial summer lull that has been all too familiar in years past.

For rubbish removal London companies are booked solid, and it would seem that in addition to renovation, recycling is the order of the season. Rather than setting off for Spain, London homeowners are setting their lands in order, throwing away years of junk and hunkering down for what may be the political and economic long-haul to come.

While companies performing rubbish removal in London have recorded unseasonably high sales so far this season, sadly the fishmongers have not been so economically fortunate, and so cannot be counted among the number of working professionals enjoying a windfall season. My own fish-selling friend is headed to the South of France for a season of bar work, his posh clientele having retained enough cash to make the usual pilgrimage, leaving both him and his fish out of water, as it were. It turns out that he may end up serving sole meuniere to some of the very same jet-setting, Britain-fleeing posh lot that made his summertime living in London so difficult.
