Finding The Cheapest Car Insurance Quotes

Unfortunately for those of us living in the UK, car insurance is compulsory, irrespective of what type of vehicle you own. In other words, even if you drive an old banger which is not really even worth insuring, you are still required by law to do so.

Of course, if your car is an old banger, then obviously you won't be too concerned about getting the best possible cover; but instead, your main goal will be to get the cheapest deal available.

Even though you may believe otherwise, cheap insurance doesn't always equate to poor cover. In fact, practically all UK insurance providers have gone to great lengths in recent years in order to make car insurance more affordable for the average person on the street. All they ask in return is that you meet certain criteria in order to qualify for reduced rates. While you may not be able to meet all their demands, you can certainly still qualify for some good discounts.

Let's just say you drive a 2004 Ford Focus, and you now need to get it insured. When you approach an insurance company, they'll ask what make and model of car you drive. They'll have a general base-rate for the type of car and your quote will be calculated using the base-rate as a starting point. Next they'll want your post code in order to determine where about in the country you live. Unfortunately, if you live in an area with a high crime rate, your insurance premiums are going to reflect this, and obviously not everyone is willing to pack up and move just in order to save a few pounds on their insurance.

You'll then be asked how old you are. If you're over the age of 25, you'll qualify for a reduced rate. Unfortunately, if you're younger than 25 you can expect to pay more. The bottom line is, insurance companies simply don't trust you yet. They have, according to statistics, reason to believe you'll drive recklessly, and you'll take unnecessary risks, thus meaning you're more at risk of being involved in an accident. If you've only got a few months to go before your 25th birthday, you may want to consider waiting until then before you get behind the wheel.

Next, you'll be asked whether or not your car has an alarm and/or an immobiliser. Cars fitted with these devices are more difficult to steal, therefore there's less chance of you submitting a claim. As a result, your rates will be reduced even further. If the vehicle has a GPS tracking device, be sure to mention it because that too will see a reduction in your rates.

The agent you speak to will also ask where your car is kept at night. The biggest discount is given to those who are able to park their car in a locked garage, although you'll still get a discount even if your car gets parked on your property behind locked gates. Don't be tempted to tell the agent you have a garage when in fact you only have a carport. If you do, and your car gets stolen, the insurance company will probably refuse to honour your claim, and in that case, having the cheapest car insurance quotes would have done you no good at all.

All car owners want to find the best car insurance quotes, but always make sure you answer all questions honestly. If you don't, that cheap insurance you found may well end being the most expensive insurance you've ever had.
