Kata Beach: Phukets Quieter Side

The northern part of Kata Beach offers some nice resorts such as Avista Resort & Spa and Peach Hill Resort. Not far from here is J. Parpa Thai Boxing Gym, Kata Shopping Center, and Karon. It is 20 minutes to Phuket Town and 40 minutes to Phuket Airport. This area is hilly region overlooking the Andaman Sea. Kata Beach is laid-back and less hectic than Patong and smaller than Karon Beach to the north. However, there are plenty of bars, pubs and restaurants in the immediate area to go to. For a beautiful view of the sunset, travelers can go to Kata Noi around the area near the Reggae Bar. The southern part of Kata Beach is probably the quietest. There are a couple of good places such as The Oasis Spring Tapas Bar, which has live music every night. The central part of Kata Beach is located at Kata Road and New Road. Kata Night Bazaar is a popular nightlife entertainment venue for go-go bars and other related establishments. Bluefin Tavern on Thai Na Road has excellent Tex-Mex food and a nice terrace to sit on and take in the view. A great place to take the family is Dino Park mini-golf course. It is located between Kata Beach and Karon Beach. There is also a Dino Bar and Restaurant. Marine Cottage is another nearby restaurant, which serves up excellent Thai seafood.

Kata Beach Excursions

Kata Beach itself is a 1.5km long stretch of white-sand beach and it is busy, but not crowded like Patong Beach to the north. Anything not available here is easily accessible by vehicle within twenty minutes such as hospitals, shopping malls, or other similar necessary amenities and facilities. Whether travelers want to relax in the beach chair and sip on a cocktail or go jet skiing, there is a variety of choices available to suit any tourists needs. Snorkeling and diving is also very popular, and very affordable. Also, dont forget to go banana boating, as this a very exciting activity. After that, travelers can go to any of the ubiquitous massage parlors or spas to unwind in luxury. Beach soccer, and volleyball are also played regularly along the south end of the beach.

Shopping areas in Kata Beach are inland just a bit. They offer a wide selection of shopping opportunities for travelers. Smile Gallery is a good place to find modern art oil paintings. Nearby is the Bikini Shop, which is one of the best places to find the latest fashions in swimwear and other accessories. There are some sportswear outlets in Thailand in this area. One of the biggest is the Adidas and Nike Outlet on Kata Road. Kata Bookshop is nearby for secondhand books. Royal Jewels of Thailand offers an array of gold and handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, etc.

Kata Beach has a tropical climate with two seasons, a wet and a dry monsoon climate. The Kata Beach area is made up of northern, central, and southern sections. Kata Beach, Average temperatures range from 24C to 32C. November to March is the high season with less rain and humidity. Low season is May through September when It rains a lot and gets very humid.
