Costa Rica is truly beautiful - magnificent even. It is one of the most bio diverse countries in the world. Nestled between Nicaragua and Panama, between the Pacific and the Caribbean, it is home to lush rainforests, active volcanoes, hills, valleys and spectacular beaches. It boasts exotic wildlife. The temperatures are permanently set on summer around the coast and spring in the hills and valleys in the center of the country. No wonder so many people want to live in Costa Rica!

If you decide this is the place for you, then the first step is research, followed up by a visit. You can see lots of the country by bus, rent a car or go on one of the many tours. There's nothing to compare experiencing the country first hand. Probably the more you see, the more you like but somewhere there will be a place or two that speaks to you.

When you have found that special place, then do some local research. Find out where the bank is, the nearest hospital, when the shops open and shut - if there is a local market, the next real estate company, etc. etc. What do you want to do when you live in Costa Rica? Will it be as a business venture or for retirement or semi-retirement. Many people come down to retire and then end up running a business they enjoy.

When you return home from your holiday, continue with your research. Find out if you can live there permanently. If you need a visa, import restrictions, etc.

The next step would be to go and live there for a while and rent a place in the area you have decided you would like to live. This is a great way to 'soak' up the place, find the ins and outs. What is great, what you think could be improved upon. Most importantly, you can then decide how feasible it is for you to leave North America and live in your part of paradise. Find out when the sun sets every day, what restaurants are good, what do they cost, etc. Only then would it feasible to take the next step and rent for the long haul or purchase a place.

You will have found out that to live in Costa Rica is to live the simple life. You can relax and enjoy the spectacular views and the beauty of the area. Eat good fresh organic foods every day. Life here is so much less stressful, which is why it is truly a paradise.
