One of the top reasons why men would not commit to a relationship is their fear of loss of freedom. By nature, men are independent and want to follow their own rules. Men love to do what they want at the time that they want it. Now if they committed themselves into a relationship, these things will be affected. Naturally you would want him to include you in his decision making as well as his activities since you are a couple now. Some men could not stand that and would not commit at all.
The loss of space can also means loss of individuality for men. What you could do to turn this around is to take it one step at a time. Don't suffocate him and impose what you want right away. Instead, drop hints that you are willing to give space and let him do his guy stuff. If he sees that you are not the type that will make him forget his individuality and his manliness then he will not have that fear of commitment with you. He will see you as someone who understands and he will certainly find himself lucky to have found a woman who understands him.
There are plenty of other reasons why men have a fear of commitment. Some of them would include fear of having one sex partner forever or possibly because of traumas with past relationships. Whatever reason men have with their fear of commitment, it can be remedied with another C word - and that is communication. All relationships, whether new or old, can be fixed with proper communication. Sit down and talk and get to know each other better by communicating properly. Everything will fall into place if there is good communication between the two of you. So get rid of the fear of C with another C.
