subject: What You Need To Do To Lose Weight [print this page] Collectively we spend million of dollars each year on what we believe to be fast weight and fat loss solutions. Yet, these so called 'solutions' are often temporary and they can cause more problems than they solve by adversely affecting your metabolism (your body's engine).
Whether you want to lose just a few pounds or a lot the key is to avoid the glut of scams, gimmicks, myths, quick fixes and focus on long term and sustainable changes to your metabolism that will produce lasting results. We now know exactly the right way to lose weight and more importantly keep the weight off over time.
You need to focus on improving your strength and fitness and this can take up to twelve months or longer to change your body in the way it needs to be changed at cellular level to improve your chances of permanent weight loss.
The first change you need to make is with your mindset. You need to ditch any fixation on calories or calorie burning exercise sessions. Long, low intensity, ineffective 'cardio' type activity is not effective in making the changes you need to make to your metabolism. If is was we would all be in great shape as we all have legs and we all walk around all day but that does not produce weight loss.
We need to shift the metabolism which regulates your body's ability to become and stay lean. We need to shift if from storing fat to burning fat and they only way to do this is to increase the health of the muscles as this is where fuel (calories) are burnt for energy. So by increasing their strength we increase the burning of fat. Which is what you want right?
First and foremost we need to build a strong and fit body with the right exercise program and this is a proper strength training program that will upgrade your metabolism while supporting yourself with good nutrition. This is all the opposite of what you may have been doing but the old ways do not work 95 percent of the time so we need to shift our efforts into doing things that will work. Otherwise we will just have to put up with an overweight, weak, flabby body for the rest of our life.
By upgrading your metabolism with proper exercise and proper eating you can expect to burn up to a hundred extra calories each day. While this may not sound much it really adds up. The good bit is it is happening even when you are sleeping and this is the key to your permanent weight loss.
The hardest part will be changing your mindset and switching it over to accept that you will need to improve your strength and the fitness that you will get from your strength training program. The more intensity (effort) that you can put into it the faster you will get results. Once you accept this you are guaranteed that strong, lean, healthy body and it will only be a matter of time till you get it.
