subject: Progesterone And Infertility [print this page]

According to the latest researches done, there is a definite link between progesterone and infertility. Generally the levels of progesterone are dependent on the monthly cycles. These levels become high during the ovulation period. However, if the sperm is not able to fertilize the egg, then the levels drop. When the estrogen and progesterone levels decline, then menstruation occurs. However, in case of pregnancy, the progesterone levels further rise to prevent the shedding of the uterus lining.

In cases where women are suffering from PCOS, they do not get to produce the female hormones needed to ovulate. The follicles do not reach its peak of maturity enough for them to become eggs. Most of the time, some of these very follicles that didn't mature to become eggs develop into cysts instead. If you'd try to look at PCOS via an ultrasound device, you'd see that they're like a string of pearl necklace lined up inside the ovary. This pearl-necklace like formation inside the ovaries are the follicles that did not reach full development.

Infertility causes in women can also be from exposure to toxins which result in hormone disruption. Endocrine disrupters are chemicals that mimic hormones, block hormonal action or trigger inappropriate hormone activity. Examples of these hormone disrupters are pesticides, phthalates, heavy metals and solvents to name a few. Forty percent of infertility causes in women are due to blockages in the fallopian tubes.

Women in the age range from thirty to the late forties are mostly suffering from progesterone deficiency as the cause of their infertility. Because of the deficiency in progesterone there is not enough to maintain the uterine lining after fertilization and the embryo cannot implant or stay implanted and so normal menstruation occur with the breakdown of the uterus lining.

If it is found that, you have a deficiency of progesterone and infertility has caused you not to be able to get pregnant then talk to your doctor about progesterone therapy. Have other levels of hormones checked to be sure there are no other underlying medical conditions that you need to be aware of.

Eating habits also contribute to lower levels of progesterone. Malnutrition or consumption of products such as chicken and meat that have been developed through farming methods, often contribute to its low level. Chicken that has been injected hormones, artificially for quick growth and egg production, result in contaminated matter and its consumption can lower your progesterone level. Consumption of aluminum and artificial sweetener can also add up to the infertility level.

Raw food diet is healthier, if compare with the typical American diet. According to traditional Chinese medicine, raw foods are considered yin pathogen, if over intake of them for a prolong period of times will cause yang deficiency, distorting the yang phrase of the normal menstrual cycle, resulting in irregular period and sometimes infertility.

Acupuncture has also become a recognized natural infertility cure either on its own, or in conjunction with other infertility treatments. By inserting needles into the skin at specific areas known to be pathways of energy, acupuncture removes any blockage which is believed to cause illnesses or disorders. Thus, once these obstructions are cleared, the body can function at its full potential.
