subject: What Diets to Follow if You Want to Lose Abdominal Fat? [print this page] It seems as if every two days there is a new diet on the block that promises fast weight loss. With so many choices, so many options, so much information, how can a consumer make a good decision? After all, it is about your health, so you can't afford to be too casual about it.
Some diets tell you to avoid carbs, while others extol the virtues of bread. Other diets tell you to eat only fresh fruits. So what among these is the secret to losing abdominal fat?
While it is true that eating only meats can help you lose weight, the long term health effects of a meat only, protein rich diet can be negative. Simply put, the body cannot process too much protein, causing your kidneys to overload with waste. Not to mention that eating only meats seldom makes you feel full - an extremely important consideration if you are to diet successfully.
A new diet, called the 'caveman' diet because it focuses on foods that our ancestors used to eat has become quite popular nowadays. This diet makes sense - our ancestors were, after all, much healthier than us and didn't suffer from obesity. This diet menu consists largely of meats along with lots of vegetables and fresh fruits. It is much healthier and well rounded than the Atkins diet (i.e. a meat only diet).
But what about carbs? No other food group has received more flak than carbohydrates in recent years. They've been blamed for pretty much all our health problems. But if you look at countries in the third world where carbohydrates and not meats are the main source of nutrition, you will find a lot less health problems caused by obesity, even among the well-off who can afford to eat as much as they want. Carbohydrates do not seem to have the same negative effect among them.
The reason behind is that most of the carbs we eat daily are highly refined. White bread, for instance, is made of refined flour which can shoot up blood glucose levels making you feel hungrier and cause you to gain fat. After all, our ancestors ate a lot of bread and they certainly didn't suffer from obesity. Carbs, therefore, are good but only when they are natural and not refined.
Even fats are important in your diet. They are used to lubricate joints and a lack of fats in the diet can be traced to weak joints and other bone related problems. Therefore, instead of eliminating fats from your diet, you should try to eat only no-saturated fats, which are healthy, in a limited quantity.
