subject: Which Is More Dangerous: Crash Diets Or Liposuction? [print this page]

Crash diets and liposuction are often lumped onto the same end of the extremity spectrum for a lot of people. By definition crash diets are dieting habits that are extreme in their calorie, sugar and fats restriction and are often adopted by those with eating disorders and/or other extremist perceptions of eating and exercise choices.

Because it is a surgery, lipoplasty is very often considered as extreme as this type of coping mechanism when it comes to weight loss and achieving your ideal body shape and size. Are these two "extremes" really in line together? Does liposuction pose as much risk as crash

dieting? It is important to know the facts and keep them straight when investigating this topic as it will

certainly affect your choices as you work towards your best and healthiest self.

Crash dieting is always dangerous. No doctor will ever recommend this type of way to count caloric intake or measure exercise success. This method is used by those who are far too desperate to make their bodies lighter and fitter as it never works. Dieting dangerously actually does more damage to your system than good. You may lose a good deal of weight right at the beginning of this process but by the time everything is said and done your body suffers a great deal, is not as healthy as it used to be or should be and you most likely will gain as much or double all of the pounds you initially lost.

On the other hand, liposuction may be a surgery with some risks associated but it is supervised and performed by medical professionals and it is much healthier than crash dieting. Consult with a health professional while you consider all of your weight loss options and follow the advice given. Chances are that you will be pointed in the direction of a balanced diet, regular exercise and liposuction if you so desire. Also, counseling will certainly be available should a patient show signs of having serious body image problems to work through so if you are wanting liposuction as a way to achieve the ideal body then almost any doctor you talk to will make sure you are healthy emotionally and physically healthy enough to maintain a healthy lifestyle prior to and after surgery.

The short answer is no; liposuction and crash diets are not in the same realm. While extreme dieting is always dangerous, liposuction can be perfectly safe if you simply follow the directions of your health care providers carefully and correctly.
