When beginning to lose weight be sure to avoid some of these common mistakes that will prevent you from reaching your goals if any progress is made at all. Losing weight can be challenging enough with all of the distractions of life present. Don't start off on the wrong foot.

1. Self Comparison

Every time we turn on the TV we see many model type figures who are very thin and fit. The media portrays them as what is true beauty and what we should look like. They are hypocrites, because it is not said how unhealthy these people are in order to be that way.

For those who naturally are as they appear, know that they are few and far and their genetics have made them so. Look at them as the exception to the rule instead of whom you look up to. More importantly, no two people are the same. Why try and be what somebody else is?

Be the best of what you can be because the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

2. Wrong Methods

Most instant weight loss programs are scams. Not only are they scams, but they can damage your health in a big way. Diet pills are often times effective and approved by doctors, but they can come with a good deal of risky side effects.

Look at weight loss products the same as you look at pop-ups for money prizes... If it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. A quick fix is not the option here, again this is your health- you have only ONE life.

Research the information you find for a product, ask your doctor, then begin to use it.

3. Lack of Commitment

A major problem in losing weight is not sticking with the program. There are plenty of healthy ways out there to help you lose weight, but YOU have to get out there and do it.

Losing weight is something that only you can do. Nobody can take it off for you. Find a program that fits your life and make it a priority to get the job done. The results will multiply if you don't "slip up".

Yes there are times where you don't follow the plan exactly. That is fine, don't beat yourself up the world will keep spinning. But be sure to make up for it at some point in the near future.
