And if you think about it, boxers trying to make weight for their matches can lose up to ten pounds in two or three days but there is a catch as they dehydrate themselves and only need to have that weight lost during weigh in time, which is a day or two before the match. After this weigh in, they know rehydrate themselves and go in at a weight more comfortable to their own liking.

The reality is that it is possible to lose weight in one week but the amount of weight that is lost in relative to the person and for most people, losing too much weight in a week, unless supervised by a physician is dangerous to the heart and the body. What is the acceptable amount to lose in a week? The average range is around 3 to 5 pounds a week is pretty good. Here are some things you should consider when thinking about going on a crash diet:

- Weight or Inches. People want to lose weight in a hurry mostly because they want to fit in a piece of wardrobe which they may not fit them at the moment. Of course there are other options like purchasing a new piece of wardrobe or buying girdles so that your body may fit that dress. If you want to lose the weight for that purpose, you can go light on the carbs and try eating fruits and vegetables. You can also try a laxative that can take out your stored fats. Taking this laxative may require you to replenish some nutrients lost, so take some vitamins and energy boosters to compensate. Doing some exercise also helps but you need to take some vitamins to keep your energy levels up.

- Do your research. There are so many companies that offer diet packages from Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and even Herbalife. Compare and contrast the various options you have and see what fits you. Some use the Carbohydrate Deprivation Technique which is good for losing weight fast while others use specialized types of foods like the South Beach Diet or the Atkins Diet. Take your time and talk to friends who have taken the diet and hear their comments on them. In the end, it is your body and your choice.
